Special Edition: Be Well Month
Roundup of what's happening with the Baldwin City Be Well Festival
Baldwin City is excited to welcome back the popular Wellness Festival Event after a three year hiatus. In 2023, the Wellness Festival is improved and expanded by a generous grant from DCCCA, a local charitable organization focused on safety, health, and well-being in the communities they serve. Take a look at all the things going on, starting back March 3rd and continuing throughout the month…
Volunteers Needed March 25th!
Do you have the time to help out with activity centers, registration, or other tasks for the Wellness Festival on March 25? The committee is seeking several more volunteers to help with various tasks at this fun, family-centric event.
Walk or run in the Book It Through Baldwin 5K!
This is a timed event, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the corner of 6th & Grove Streets. Packet pick up will take place on Thursday, March 23rd from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and Friday, March 24th from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Baldwin City Library. Other Be Well Programs taking place this month
The Baldwin City Chamber was able to award a number of mini grants to local organizations and programs to facilitate health and wellness throughout the year. All programs are designed to benefit the community in creative and active ways. Mini-grant recipients include Baker University Teacher Education & Recreation Program, USD348 High School, USD348 Primary Center, Vintage Park, and more. You can see the full list of grant recipients here.
Read on for a few of the programs and activities happening now.
Seed Library
The library is hosting a pretty cool seed library, available during library hours.
Blood Draws
As usual, blood draws will be available for an inexpensive flat rate at the Wellness Festival on March 25th. This year, the first 100 people to pre-register will receive blood draws completely free. Access to this program has been extended to March 17th, so register now at the Chamber of Commerce. You may also download a form here.
Shamrock Hunt
The Baldwin City Recreation’s third annual Shamrock Hunt was expanded with a mini-grant from the Be Well Committee, and they still have some rocks that haven’t been found. With great cash prizes, a prize raffle and more, this rock hunt is worth shaking off winter hibernation mode.
Lumberyard Arts Center
Check with the Lumberyard to see what classes and programming is on tap for March, some of which was expanded or added through a mini-grant.
Capstone event
And then of course, there’s the main event itself: Over 70 wellness vendors, with tons of awesome prizes (bikes & a kayak??!) and give aways, free health screenings, and fantastic family activities! The Baldwin City Volunteer Fire Department is handing out and fitting bicycle helmets, our Electric Department and the Police Department have cool swag, there are food vendors, demonstrations galore, and so much more! This is the kickoff to spring you’ve been waiting for, so drop it on your calendar and we’ll see you there =)
