We’ve made it to the last month of 2020, for better or worse. We’re just over two weeks away from the Winter Solstice, and - who knew? - the Holidays look different this year.
Here are some things happening around Baldwin City over the next few weeks, created with love by our community for our community.
TOMORROW EVENING, Saturday, December 5th, from 4-6pm, join us for a drive-by Santa event at City Hall! Please start on High Street at 9th or before and head East. Santa will be by the Christmas tree at the intersection of High and 8th. Remain in your vehicle, and elves will deliver goodies to the kids and collect any letters to Santa you may want to hand deliver.
Other Holiday events happening in Baldwin this weekend include:
Lumberyard Arts Center's Christmas Market
Baldwin City School District (USD 348)'s Jumpin' Jivin' Drive In Musical
Baldwin City Ks. Public Library's drive in Light Show and Grab & Go Make a Gift program
Baldwin First UMC's Living Nativity
Baldwin Academy of Dance & Voice’s Holiday Telethon

Ok then, so that’s quite a few holiday happenings. What next?
Have you taken the Sales Tax Survey yet? Let City Council know your opinion on raising sales tax .5% in order to fund a community center in the old gym, aka the Bauer Building. For more information about the project and to take the survey, go to baldwincity.gov/BauerBuilding.
Now for the important stuff.
Potential water service disruption
City employees will attempt to track down a water leak on Monday, December 7th, on Third Street between Elm and Fremont. This work is scheduled to start by 8 AM and complete by 3PM. We will likely need to shut off the water on this line at some point between those times. This should only affect 5 homes, and door hangers have been distributed to those homes.
Road Closure Notice
Moving in to the last portion of the sewer interceptor project, the contractor will need to close one lane of Santa Fe Drive at the intersection of 1st and Santa Fe. This will begin Tuesday, December 8th and last for an undetermined amount of time. If they are not able to complete the necessary tasks with one lane open, they will have to completely close the intersection. Residents will need to enter and exit the area through the US Highway 56 entrance if it needs to be fully closed. We will keep you updated on this, and thank you in advance for your understanding and patience.
This is important. Baldwin City had a 10% positivity rate for the last 14 days, by far the highest in Douglas County. Stay home. Stay safe. Celebrate the holidays with your immediate family and please, please wear your mask, for everyone’s sake.
And now, just a hint of fun:
We heard the Grinch is visiting Baldwin despite the Christmas Parade getting cancelled! Stay tuned for some fun and shenanigans next weekend, that may or may not involve the Grinch getting caught in his Grinchy ways.
